As an immigrant from Ukraine, artist Khrystyna Kozyuk didn’t know many fellow artists in the western suburbs or how to go about marketing her brightly colored abstract paintings.
That was until the Villa Park resident joined the La Grange Art League, an 83-year-old nonprofit that nurtures artists creatively and helps them sidestep the stereotypical image of the artist starving in a cold garret.
Kozyuk, who studied art in her homeland, has paintings on display in the league’s gallery at 122 Calendar Ave., La Grange. The exposure has been an asset to her career.
